Hearts at Play

Hearts at Play

The Bradens, Book Six

The Blurb:

Brianna Heart has a six-year old daughter and a twelve-year plan to keep her life as simple as possible until Layla turns eighteen. That means swearing off relationships and the drama that goes along with them, working two jobs, and being the best damn mother she can be.

The last thing Capital Series Gran Prix racer Hugh Braden wants after dating media-hungry leggy models and money-hungry fan girls is a blind date. But how could he turn down a favor to one of his best friends? Hugh expected the date to go poorly, but he didn’t expect to be intensely attracted to the beautiful brown-eyed bartender who completely blows him off—and steals his every thought thereafter.

When Brianna’s perfectly orchestrated life turns upside down, Hugh is there to help, softening the turmoil, and maybe even rescuing her heart from the lonely place where it has been hiding. Can a man who doesn’t believe in fate and a woman who doesn’t believe in true love find happiness in each other’s arms forever?

The Review:

I thought I had found my favorite book in The Braden/Love in Bloom series with the last book, Savannah’s series, but this one is such a close tie I can’t decide for sure which I love best.

The first word that comes to mind when describing the heroine, Brianna “Bree” Heart is sweet. She’s also a committed single parent who puts her daughter first and even though sparks fly between Hugh Braden (the last of the formerly bad-boy Bradens) and Bree almost immediately, Bree is cautious for a lot of good reasons. But Hugh is just about perfect, he is patient, kind, understanding and more than willing to move as slowly as possible to win Bree’s love and prove to her that he is worth having.

As always the love scenes are hot, but there is a special sweetness that comes across with Hugh and Bree that made them that much more realistic and loving for me. The obstacles they have to overcome are totally different than the ones Hugh’s brothers and sister had to overcome, and while their obstacles were real, this one felt different to me, maybe because I’ve been a single parent and could so readily identify with Bree and her “twelve year plan.”

I am in love with this book. I think it is the best romance Foster has written because it is so real and so easy to identify with. I give it my highest recommendation.
